Italian Sculptures

Since many generations Italian sculptures of all kind are being carved from wood in “Val Gardena”. This beautiful valley in South Tyrol, Italy, is since many generations home for a lot of wood craftsmen. Mostly their knowledge of traditional wood carving was handed over from their fathers or grandfathers. Nowadays there even are two art schools located in Val Gardena especially teaching future artisans more about wood carving and the tradition of making Italian sculptures.

The company of Demetz Patrick Woodcarvings in Italy, is employer for many master craftsmen. There are designers, sculptors, painters and even guilders. The carvers are still using traditional tools such as the chisel and the wooden hammer. The artisans are working with great precision and affection in the creating process of each single Italian sculpture.

Each wooden item is carefully carved. There are Italian sculptures like Madonnas, several protectors, nine different angels and of course a large range of religious figures. The shop of Patrick Demetz in S. Christina offers a variety of wooden nativities with crib figures like Maria, St. Joseph and little baby Jesus.

Italian sculptures also include wooden figurines of skiers, hunters, children or animals. Even the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and his famous wife, Sissi, are finely carved in detail. The assortment, which can also be seen in the online-shop of Demetz Patrick Woodcarvings, is completed by cuckoo clocks, wooden reliefs, chess figures and chess boards. Every wooden sculpture gets a certificate of authenticity.
