Joseph of Nazareth
was an artisan, usually also defined as carpenter. Joseph was thought to be Mary’s husband and Jesus’ father. However, according to the Gospel of Matthew, Joseph was engaged with Mary when an angel visit him in a dream and announced the birth of Jesus. He took Mary as his wife, although Jesus was not his son but the creation of the Holy Spirit.  

Presentation: St. Josef is often represented while sleeping, with reference to the many dreams he had according to the Gospel of Matthew. Saint Josef is also frequently represented with child and as carpenter.

Patron: St.Joseph is Patron of Austria and the Church. He protects the artisans, the carpenters, the family, the marriage, the children and the passengers.
